Four International Trade Fairs Open in Late October October 18, 2007 – Four international trade fairs, showcasing the latest products and services of around 850 companies, will give buyers a world of choice when they open, October 27, at AsiaWorld-Expo. Successfully debuting last year, the Hong Kong International Building Materials and Construction Equipment Fair, the Hong Kong International Furniture Fair and Eco Expo Asia are joined, this year, by the first Sports Source Asia. The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (TDC) is working with four fair organisers – MMI-Munich International Trade Fairs Pte Ltd (MMI), Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd (Messe Frankfurt), CIEC Exhibition Co (HK) Ltd (CIEC) and Kenfair International Ltd (Kenfair) – to stage the trade fairs, which close October 30. “We are pleased to collaborate with the four fair organisers. The collective showing broadens Hong Kong’s range of trade fairs on offer and will help the respective industries find wider exposure globally,” said Raymond Yip, Assistant Executive Director of the TDC. Mr Yip believes that Sports Source Asia is launching at the right time. “The sporting goods industry in Asia is set to shine with the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games on the horizon and increasing health awareness among the general public,” he said. Sports Source Asia The fair is supported by sports goods fair organiser the ispo group, which connects more than 85,000 industry players worldwide. “The fair has won an encouraging response from international buyers,” said Ronald Unterburger, Managing Director of MMI, the fair’s co-organiser. “Buying representatives from well-known sports brands and leading chain stores and distributors have pre-registered to visit the fair.” Pre-registration reveals an international lineup, including: the Chinese mainland’s Li Ning; France’s Decathlon and Lafuma; Germany’s Adidas, InterSport Corp and Sport 2000; Hong Kong’s Li & Fung; Japan’s Minami Sports; Italy’s Asics and Lotto Sports; Spain’s Camper; and the United States’ Foot Locker. Alongside the parade of fashionable sportswear, fair organisers have arranged many seminars to provide industry players with up-to-date market intelligence. Hot topics include sportswear trends, sportswear design and the use of materials, licensing opportunities and the impact of REACH. Hong Kong International Building Materials and Construction Equipment Fair The demand for Chinese building materials and construction equipment is on the rise with the strengthening of the Chinese building materials industry, said Sam Xie, Managing Director of CIEC. “Construction projects for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the World Expo 2010 Shanghai and the Asian Games in Guangzhou in 2010 are moving into full gear. That, in turn, has fuelled the increasing demand for all kinds of building products and services.” “Capitalising on Hong Kong’s premier business environment, the fair has gained a strong foothold as the optimal platform for networking and identifying new business opportunities between the Chinese mainland and overseas’ industry players,” he added. A new theme area, the Building Ceramics and Sanitary Ware Zone, has been added this year for ease of sourcing. Visitors can also keep abreast of the latest market and product trends through seminars highlighting building and lifestyle trends, sustainable development and architecture. Hong Kong International Furniture Fair The fair, organised by the TDC and Kenfair, will showcase a wide selection of offerings, including designer, office, contract business and indoor and outdoor furniture, as well as parts and accessories. “This year, buyers have an additional opportunity to source quality furniture with the new pavilion from the Hong Kong International Furniture and Decoration (HK) Association,” said Herbert Ip, Chairman of Kenfair. A non-profit organisation, the association promotes Hong Kong’s design-focused furniture sector. Another highlight will be the new Classic Furniture Zone, which covers both antique and reproduction items of exceptional quality. The IGLOO zone – Inspirational, Glamorous, Living, Original and Outstanding furniture and décor – returns following last year’s success. Seminars on industry trends, brand building and retail management of the mainland’s furniture industry, along with tips to enhance the commercial and residential environment with the right furniture, will also be on offer during the fair. Eco Expo Asia – International Trade Fair on Environmental Protection The last day of the fair (Oct 30) is open to the public at no cost and will feature a variety of informative seminars. Experts from government, academia and industry associations will discuss the challenges of going green. Last year, more than 3,400 people attended the open day. Three sections will be introduced: Green World addresses buyers of regional and national organizations; Green Enterprise offers solutions for business and manufacturing; and Green Living concentrates on eco-friendly consumer products and services. “The highlight of the fair is the Eco Asia Conference, which will cover three major industry topics, including Air and Water, Waste Management and Recycling, and Alternative Energy and Energy Efficiency,” said Katy Lam, Director of Trade Fair, Messe Frankfurt. Organised by the TDC and Messe Frankfurt, the fair will also feature two new pavilions hosted by Canada and Hong Kong, and a new theme zone – the Indoor Air Quality Zone. - End- Fair Websites Hong Kong International Building Materials and Construction Equipment Fair Hong Kong International Furniture Fair Eco Expo Asia – International Trade Fair on Environmental Protection Sports Source Asia About the TDC Media Contact: For media enquiries, please contact the TDC's Media and Public Affairs Department:
